I’m Soul Cool Jay. Welcome to my journey…

I want to give you a little background on myself. I am a Florida A&M University graduate that has been an Atlanta underground music tastemaker, show producer and underground music aficionado over the past 10 years. I first started interviewing independent artists in 2010 with my first interview opportunity being with Dallas born soul artist N’Dambi and Grammy award-winning soul singer Bilal. I had just moved to Atlanta officially in September of 2009. I have also interviewed many independent artists such as Leela James, Eric Roberson, Moonchild, Dwele, Sy Smith, Algebra Blessett, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Zo! (Foreign Exchange), Carmen Rodgers, Teedra Moses, Carolyn Malachi, Rhonda Thomas, and Timothy Bloom just to name a few. I have also produced shows, worked on Grammy nominated projects, and performed a lot of little jobs in the music industry. I have also hosted shows and events, and I’ve even starred in a music video (you may have seen it lol). Out of all my experiences, I truly loved sitting down with people and having real conversations that can impact the greater audience at large. I truly believed that the real story lies beyond the accolades, notoriety, or the finished product that shows up on the screen or in the visual space of the audience. The true story lies behind the scenes, before the world takes notice and in the moments between performances and displays of public expression.

Yet, there is more to my life, my story and my journey than just music. From a little boy, my mother seeded and birthed into me a love for fragrances as well. She would purchase fragrances for me when I was still a toddler. Having someone tell you that you smell good is the first compliment I remember receiving as a child. As I grew older, I began to dig into fragrances and research more about the composition, ingredients, mapping and more about luxury and niche brands. I also love horology and timepieces as well. Watches are one of the few accessories that men can actually wear. I first got into watches for their fashion component. As I got older, the engineer in me began to be inquisitive about what made watches work and what made them so expensive or drove them to be desirable. That lead me to understand movements, complications, dials, in-house vs. sourced movements, fashion watches and more.

These are just a few of my interests, but there is a not more to Soul Cool Jay than you think. So, this will be the hub where I will allow you into my world and share my mind on subjects from love to liner notes, food to politics, and everything in between. This is where you will get to see all of my brainchilds and endeavors I get into. I also plan to show and host many more outlets from interviews, reveals, and a lot more.

Over the past 10 years, I have been able to meet so many great people; I was delighted to have incredible conversations, countless memories, and moments where the artist and audience come together to learn more about each other. Soulcooljay.com is an opportunity to expand that connection to a greater audience and build a platform where people can come and know what I know and see the world through my lens. There will be real people with real stories, learning about new things in the interests I have and thought-provoking pieces that I hope can be shared and spark necessary dialog.
